died 1694 in Isle of Wight, VA. He was the son of Thomas Joyner born around 1595 in Bere Regis, Dorset, England and died 1656 in England. Thomas was born in 1619 and married Elizabeth Robins who was also bom in England. She married around 1646 and died 1683, daughter of Edward Robins.
In our files on the Joyner family, we have many more details including siblings, etc. This is listed for information purposes and while it appears to be accurate, we cannot guarantee this data because we do not have full copies of the various Joyner references cited.
Now back to Solomon Lott and a very important piece of information that ties him r back to his ancestors in Virginia. We know that our Solomon Lott was a “Native of Virginia” and was a member of “The High Church of England” based on statements made in the 1860 obituary of his son, Elisha Lott. This record is found at the Mississippi State Archives in Jackson, Ms. The source is a book titled “The Mississippi Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church: 1859 -1860, p. 60 and 61”. His obituary and death bed interview by close friend, Reverend Philip Napier on October 13, 1860 recognized Elisha as a respected Methodist Minister traveling throughout the southeast United States. The article goes into much detail about his life, work, and family. Rev. Napier was no doubt well educated, and we have every reason to believe he was accurate when he said Elisha Lott’s parents were “"Natives of Virginia”. A copy of Elisha’s Bible in the Jackson Archives says he died on September 17, 1860 in Madison Co., MS. The above obituary also states Elisha Lott was bom in Wilmington, North Carolina on April 23,
1784.	The Bible lists his parents as “Solomon and Ann Lott”. It is, in part, through Elisha’s recorded information that we have been able to connect his various siblings and thus, the children of Solomon and Ann (maiden name unknown) Lott.
In an effort to identify the children and grandchildren of our Solomon Lott c. 1738, we were forced to study all of the Lotts that had settled in south Mississippi and Alabama (all part of West Florida/Mississippi Territory in the early 1800's). Our Solomon Lott and his immediate family settled in Hancock Co. on the banks of the Pearl River (a few miles west of Picayune, now Pearl River, Co.) beginning in 1810. About the same time his brothers William, Absalom, along with Arthur's widow and children, and various nieces and nephews began locating approximately 35 miles north of Picayune on the Pearl River where Columbia is now located in Marion Co., MS. Almost as soon as they arrived, some packed up and moved while others stayed a number of years and relocated to other places in Mississippi,Texas, Alabama, Florida, etc.
To complicate things, these families often named their children after their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, etc. On a few occasions, we feel certain they were assigning “Jr.” and “Sr.” to cousins, uncles, and nephews when they lived in close proximately or were close to the same age and carrying the same first names. I have found documented proof of this happening to a different family in the early 1800's in Hancock County.
We will now discuss several individuals that had us confused when we first began researching our Solomon Lott and his children. First, there was Arthur Lott (Solomon's
