Sawmill steam engine Logs were carried as far away as Lumberton to the H.L. Hines Lumber Mill in Kiln via rail. This is a photo of one of the mill’s steam engines and crew which was popular in the area in the early 1900’s. The Hines mill ceased production in about 1930 with the depletion of virgin forrest in the area. (Photo courtesy of Earl (Buck) Ladner and the Hancock County Historical Society). The Echo welcomes photos older than 25 years for publication. They will b^ returned to their owners.
