Woman's Fortitude Sets Example For Community
The determination of a Mississippi City woman to restore a storm and fire damaged kindergarten is another example of the will of Coast residents to overcome adversity.
The D. J. Newmans were hard hit when, in the immediate wake of Hurricane Camille, fire broke out in their damaged 1411 North street residence.
Mrs. Valerie Newman, who spearheaded the recent and successful Gloria Garza Kidney Fund drive, said today the Tinkertime Kindergarten she operated at her home will be placed
back in operation.
The storm-damaged building adjacent to the North street residence is being remodeled, she said, and it has been determined the downstairs section of the residence can be salvaged.
“By Sept. 2 we hope to be able to receive children of working parents and by Sept. 15 the regular kindergarten pupils,” the undaunted Mrs. Newman said.
Currently, the Newmans are residing at 2301 Rose Court in Mississippi City.________________
