DOC TOUPS PHOTOGRAPHY - PHOTO JOURNALISM MOSAICS DOC TOUPS is a photo journalist whose work is locally seen in the pages of the SEA COAST ECHO newspaper. He began his photography and writing career in southern Africa in the early 1980's, covering wars, riots and general news. He studied photography and cinematography at the New York Institute of Photography and Videography with Cox Cable Television. Acclaimed Southern Artist, ELIZABETH VEGLIA, has produced a number of amiliar pices of outdoor mosaic art in both Nashville and on the Gulf Coast. Local residents have enjoyed her community art projects at Hancock Bank Plaza and on St. Joh's Parish Hall, both in Gulfport, Mississippi. The striking mosiac mural on the new Ocean Springs, Mississippi Civic Center is*the result of her collaboration with Mac Anderson, brother of th late Walter Anderson. A Hancock County resident for three years, DOC TOUPS has been active in the community through his work. He recently submitted the winning design for the Hancock Chamber of Commerce's new logo, created the logo for the Bay St. Louis Main Street Market and won the 1991 Mississippi Press Association First Place award for the best house ad and editorial in the weekly newspaper category. In addition to her monumental pieces, ELIZABETH VEGLIA produces smaller scale mosaics which emply her own highly original application of materials and techniques. These pieces are now available to individual patrons at galleries and shops across the Gulf South. Originally from New Orleans and a former resident of Nashville, VEGLIA has lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for many years. T.H.
