PUBLIC WORKSHOP
The results of the work carried out in the first phase of the work program were presented at a public meeting held on August 1, 1991. The hearing was organized so that community input on planning issues related to proposed gaming sites could be obtained and documented by the consultant team. Following presentations on land uses, zoning and the potential market for dockside gaming, a number of round table discussions were held in which selected local representatives discussed a series of questions related to the constraints and opportunities posed by future gaming sites within Bay St. Louis, (see Appendix).
There were approximately 50 participants for the round table discussion. The meeting also attracted an additional 125 people who attended the presentations from both the consultants and leaders of the round table groups. The results of the round table discussions and the completed questionnaires are summarized below. Two sets of responses are given for each of the 10 questions: the first summarizes comments from the round table participants; and the second provides information gained from 58 questionnaires completed by the general audience.
Question 1: List and prioritize the major issues and concerns that you feel should be addressed when considering gaming sites.
(a)	Response from Round Tables.
Four key concerns were highlighted by the discussions:
(1)	The need to limit the impact of increased traffic (particularly on downtown and Beach Boulevard) and provide adequate off-street parking to serve gaming sites (27)*.
(2)	Retain the integrity and architectural scale of the downtown area and older residential areas (20)
(3)	Reduce/eliminate conflicts with existing residential neighborhoods (13).
(4)	Endure adequate provision of city emergency services (e.g. police, fire, etc.) (13).
Other important requirements include:
•	High quality architectural development/landscaping of dockside sites.
•	Provision of adequate supporting facilities (e.g. utilities).
Figures in parenthesis show number of questionnaires that cited this issue/concern (A total of 43 questionnaires were filled in by individuals at the round tables.
