Hines Lumber Company, Kiln, Mississippi
Kiln, Mississippi was bursting at its seams until the big stock market crash in 1929. The key industry in the area wa~ the Hines Lumber Company mill located on the Jourdan River. Kiln at the time had seperate hotels for blacks and whites, motion picture theatre, hospital, railroad depot, grocery stores, mill commissary, barber
shops, drug store, post office, three churches, shipyard, turpentine store and other businesses. Sam Whitfield Timber Company now operates from the area.
