Police protection is adequate. No city is crime free, 'out here again by conpariaon the police force has an enviable record when it comes to apprehending these law violators.
For a small city, our hospital is surely well staffed. Good doctors. Well trained nurses. Caring people. Private services are growing, too.
It is difficult to talk about Bay St. Louis without making some mention of its past. Bay St. Louis is really an historical spot.
First known inhabitants were Choctaw Indians who called the place Chicapoula. In the Choctaw language that means bad grass ?- probably rock-a-chaws. later it wa3 chartered as Bay St. Louis, a name honoring the sainted King Louis IX of France. Sandwiched in between those names was a charter issued to Shieldsboro. The post office is said to have received mail addressed Bay St. Louis and Shieldsboro at the same time. Thomas Shields made himself quite popular and there are those places still honoring his name in Bay St. Louis such as Shieldsboro Antique Arcade and Shieldsboro Square.
In December of 1799 d'Iberville placed a few families in Bay St. Louis. The first written record dates a bit earlier when in 1781
