When lumber was king
The Edward Hines Lumber Company’s lumber mill in Kiln was one of the most modem in its day. This is a photo of it when it was new and located at the Jourdan River in Kiln. The mill had a capacity of 150,000 board feet of longleaf pine production a day. This photo was taken from a 1930 Edward Hines Lumber Company’s Daily Reminder. It was the property of E.B. Carter at a Hines enterprise in Orr, Minnesota.
Carter noted the weather and temperature for each day, such as, 15 below zero on Jan. 3; 38 below on Jan. 8; 43 below on Jan. 9; 33 below on Jan. 20 and 22 and Feb. 14.
