*** No beginning pages *** All at the same time. He tied the harp on the back of a chair while playing the guitar. He could also throw the guitar up into the air and it would keep the same tune. He could make the prettiest baskets out of all colors of cloth. Did so many different tricks. It was amazing to see him. Well he stayed with us until Christmas day when my daddy gave him his walking papers. The Christmas Eve night that I had spoken of my father saw a flask of whiskey fall out of his back pocked onto the floor so my daddy never said anything to him then ahead of the crowd but the next morning he told Charlie he'd have to find himself another place to stay on account of what I saw last night. My father told him he had two grown sons and if either of them had ever touched a drop of liquor, he didn't know it. So he said I don't want anyone around my place who does drink. So Charlie went down to J.B. Hovers and stayed there for awhile. I don't remember just how long. Then from there he went to Bay St. Louis, Miss, and Emile Koch my brother-in-law gave him a job driving a delivery wagon hauling groceries. As Emile and sister Olla had a lovely little house down close to Jexes Mill also a small store in the corner of the front yard. This was just a few miles out of Bay St. Louis. So he worked for Emile for a few months when he fell in love with a girl in Pass Christian and they were married and I think the best I can recollect the brides father had some kind of a business and he gave Charlie a job. So then the last time I heard from him he had three children and had Arthritis so bad until he could only get around by crawling on his hands and knees. That's the last I've heard of him. He was a man of about 5 feet and some few inches tall, fair complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. Weighed around 145 lbs. I still have his picture. He was a real likeable person. Real smart and jolly, always pleasant and agreeable. That' so much as I know about him. He used to show Stella and I how to make those baskets I spoke of earlier. But I couldn't commence to make one now as that' been around 75 years ago now as I was 14 or 15 yrs then and I'll be 92 this coming Apr. 22,. Well I guess you've heard enough about Charlie Davis and his Indian girlfriend. 114
