Hwy. 90, Long Beach. In 1972 the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning established the University of Southern Mississippi - Gulf Park as an upper level degree completion regional campus. The USM Gulf Coast central administrative offices, Library, Conference Center, Small Business Development Center and other centralized services are domiciled on the Gulf Park Campus.
The campus occupies the former Gulf Park College for Women. Thirty-seven acres front the Gulf of Mexico. This setting serves as Opening Day Hospitality Center. Hostesses will greet you in Hardy Hall. An art exhibit features native trees and flowers by Long Beach artists: Jo Bailey, Jean Bogan, Sue Bone and Irene Davis. The Beauvoir Belles will be in antebellum costumes. Bring a brown bag lunch, seating, and join us for a concert by the Long Beach High School Concert Band, Choir and Madrigals-under the direction of Bob Fayard and Shane McLveen. There will also be a special program by the School of Music, USM, Hattiesburg. Sponsored by Long Beach Garden Club, USM Gulf Park, Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. In event of inclement weather, music will be held in auditorium.
HANCOCK COUNTY WELCOME CENTER Thursday, March 21st - 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This copy of an antebellum home, opened in 1979 at the junction of I-10 and State Highway 607, has been rightfully called "the most beautiful Hospitality Center in the U.S.A.” Interior appointments and paintings, as well as the handsome staircase, carry through the "antebellum” theme. Hostesses: Bay-Waveland and Diamondhead Garden Club.
JACKSON COUNTY WELCOME CENTER Thursday, March 21st - 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
JACKSON COUNTY WELCOME CENTER, Interstate I-10, one mile west of the Alabama State Line. Opened in June of 1984. this building is a replica of a colonial style southern mansion. The ground floor features two parlors. It is furnished in antique period pieces dating from 1700 and has draperies styled in keeping with the era. Hostesses: Moss Point Garden Club. 2.	MR. & MRS. FREDERICK MAY, 23441 Arcadia Farm Road. The May home is a 6,000 sq. ft. Country French house surrounded by 75 beautifully landscaped acres. A bricked screen porch overlooking 900 sq. ft. of Bayou Potash is a favorite place for entertaining. The house is decorated throughout in Country French. The
dining room walls are a pale gold hue with white crown molding. The table and chairs are white burled wood with turquoise cushions on the chairs. Ellis Gould prints are hung over a wrought iron serving table. The kitchen cabinets are bleached ash with Corian tops and pale peachy beige tile floors. Grape vines are hand painted on the white wall tiles. The ceilings throughout this home vary from 9 to 15 feet. Daisies are used in one daughter’s bedroom against a background of white. The ceiling is sky blue with soft, hand painted clouds. A pool and a guest home complete this picture perfect home. Brightly colored whimsical fish throughout the guest house were painted by Mrs. May’s mother. Noon until 3:00 PM.
3.	MR. & MRS. JOSEPH L. LAUGHLIN, 22451 Fox Run. The exterior of this pink and white house has a French Provincial flavor. Inside, soft rose walls, wide white crown molding and wood floors are the setting for country elegance. An Oriental rug and white marble fireplace complete the picture in the family room. A custom built entertainment center and bookcase/computer center are the work of local artisan Peter McArthur. A sun room across the rear of the house is painted a shell pink and poetry is written on the walls in large, bold print, giving one the feeling of words written in the sand. The kitchen cabinets are dusty beige and match the glazed Italian tile floor. A dining room with green and white antiqued walls and sheer white curtains has an Italian bookcase in which the family silver is displayed. Noon until 3:00 PM.
4.	LT. COL. & MRS. HARRY O. EVERS. 102 Palm Avenue. Entering this home one is surrounded with tones of cream and off white anchored by carpeting of dusty rose. Mrs. Evers, a very fine artist, chose these colors to serve as a background for her paintings and murals. Two Chinese screens over the sofa were brought from China by Colonel Evers when he accompanied Nixon to China as Chief of Communications to open trade with that country. The dining room chairs, 1840 Jacobean, were used in a Wm. Powell movie. Chandeliers were beaded by Mrs. Evers, as was the wall mural. A mural of the Pass Christian Harbor, by Mrs. Evers, covers one wall of the master bathroom. There is an artistic blending of contemporary and antique furnishings with mirroring and greenery that gives one the feeling of openness. Noon until 3:00 PM.
5.	MR. & MRS. CHARLES RAMSEY, 845 Scenic Drive. This 20,000 sq. ft. home is reputed to be the largest home in Mississippi. The home was built in 1964 for J. Edgar Monroe. (Mr. Monroe also owned the home in which "The Great Gatsby" was filmed in R.I.). The original house was approximately 10,000 sq. ft. The Ramseys added two wings. The Ramseys have three children and four grandchildren, all of which live with them. Each family has their own entrance and living quarters complete with kitchen, baths, bedrooms and living rooms. The home has a total of 19 full and half baths, 3 kitchens and 15 bedrooms. One of the highlights is the beautiful curving stairway in the foyer. Open 3:00 - 4:30 PM. Tea will be served.
