FMU alum co-hosts ?Live with Regis?
Francis Marion University alumna Kellie Rasberry, a radio personality in Texas, co-hosted the Friday, Oct. 27 episode of ?Live with Regis.?
Rasberry, a radio personality at KHKS 106.1 ?KISS? FM in Denton, Texas, received a bachelor?s degree in English from FMU in 1993. She appeared on ?Live? as part of the show?s ?Women of Radio? week.
Ten finalists were selected from thousands of women disc jockeys from around the country. ?Live? viewers then chose Rasberry and four others from the finalists.
?Knowing that I have to appear before a national TV audience might prove to be the motivation I need to lose those darned 20 pounds,? Rasberry said. ?And as an added bonus, I'll look like a big shot at my high school reunion in November.? Rasberry is co-host and news director of the ?Kidd Kraddick in the Morning Show? on KISS FM. She began her radio career at the age of 19 imitating character voices for WJMX FM in Florence.
She was quickly promoted to news director of that station, and at
the age of 25, she was hosting her own morning show as well as serving as promotion coordinator for two stations. During that time, Rasberry also worked at WBTW-TV as the weekend weather forecaster.
In 1994, she moved to Dallas to take a job with 106.1 KISS FM. In addition to her duties on the morning show, Rasberry also produces the station?s community service program titled ?KISS Klose Up with Kellie Rasberry.?
She enjoys working with ?Kidd?s Kids,? the station?s in-house charity organization that takes chronically and terminally ill children on all-expenses-paid trips to Walt Disney World each year. She is also a Big Sister for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. Rasberry also participates in the ?Adopt-A-Caseworker? program with Northwest Family Outreach.
In her spare time, she auditions for television and commercial work. She played the role of ?Theresa? in Leann Rimes? television movie, ?Holiday in Your Heart.? Rasberry resides in Richardson, Texas.
Trustees name computer lab for Jackson
Francis Marion University trustees approved the naming of a high-tech computer laboratory in the School of Education in memory of the late J.R. Bryan Jackson, a Florence businessman who died in 1996.
Jackson, chairman and chief executive officer of Superior Machine Co. upon his death, was on the board of directors of CP&L and a lifelong advocate for quality education. It was a gift from CP&L that helped establish Innovation Place, and the balance of the gift will be used to endow the operation of the computer lab to be known as J.R. Bryan Jackson Innovation Place.
Jackson was also a member of the Advisory Committee for FMU?s School of Business and a founding member of the Pee Dee Education Fouridation.
Trustees also adopted two other resolutions, one making minor revisions in the academic freedom and tenure policy, and the other establishing procedures for faculty-grievance cases not covered by that policy.
The trustees also heard updates on the university?s administrative reorganization, budgeting, enrollment and marketing efforts, student activities, athletics and planning for a capital campaign.
In his report to the board, President Fred Carter praised the work of FMU people. ?There?s a unique little secret about FMU,? said Carter. ?FMU is what it is today because of the quality and dedication of the people who work here?faculty and staff.?
Trustees also agreed to hold future committee meetings and board meetings all in one day to save time and expense. Their next meeting is scheduled Jan. 26,
2001.
Year?s total enrollment stands at 3,569
A total of 3,569 students are enrolled at Francis Marion University for the 2000-2001 year. The student body is made up of 2,795 undergraduate students and 774 graduate students.
The freshman class shows an 8 percent increase over a year ago, although total enrollment is down 6.4 percent from 1999-2000. The enrollment broken down by classifications is: freshmen, 785; sophomores, 707; juniors, 606; seniors, 564; special students, 133; and graduate students, 774.
There are 73 students enrolled in the Medical University of South Carolina?s satellite nursing program at FMU. There are also 614 students enrolled in contract courses throughout the region.
