Woodbine
This charming Old South city boasts more than a hundred houses built during the early 1800s. Columbus served as a refuge for the wounded in the Civil War and was not attacked by Union forces. Twenty of its romantic antebellum homes, ranging from cottages to mansions, will be open during Pilgrimage.
Special Attractions
The Lee Home and Museum is open free of charge during Pilgrimage week, and the Columbus Public Library next door offers free guided tours featuring exhibits of historical materials and antiques.
DRIVING TOUR: A free brochure for a 30-minute driving tour of the historic sections of the city is available. A route marked with blue and white signs leads visitors along this historic trail while the brochure describes each structure.
Other interesting sites available to the visitor are the Friendship Cemetery, origin of National Memorial Day, guided tours of the Mississippi University for Women campus and three mid-1800s churches.
