The Pioneer Pilgrimage, sponsored by the Lawrence County Historical Society, is a folk tour of a select few of the over 50 pioneer structures still standing in the same setting where early settlers began taming the wilderness. With the signing in 1805 of the Treaty of Mount Dexter with the Choctaw Nation, secure land titles became available in Lawrence County long ahead of most of the rest of Mississippi. As a result, land-hungry people flooded into the fertile valleys of the Pearl River and its tributaries. In 1814, Lawrence County became one of 14 territorial counties. Authentic artifacts and demonstrations of long-forgotten crafts are a highlight of this unusual Pilgrimage.

Special Attractions
A Country Kitchen with home-baked goods for sale will be open during Pilgrimage. Of special interest in the area is the Lawrence County Courthouse in Monticello.
Tour Information
Five pioneer structures will be open for tour from 10 until 5 o’clock on Friday and Saturday and from 2 until 6 o’clock on Sunday. Admission is $5.00 for adults, students half price. Children under 12 admitted free. All tickets are good for any day. Tickets and maps will be available at Pilgrimage Headquarters, Highway 84, Monticello.
