Be It further enacted*That all resignations by any officer of said city,except when by tho Kayor* shall be addressed fcp the M ayor , and when by the isayar to the A Idemm in council! rmd when tho Ilayor shall be absent from tho city or unabletor from any cause* fail to discharge the duties df his office, or whenever the said offioe shall be made vacant by death or otherwise, the Alderasn shall have the pouer to appoint one of their number Mayor pro too,, vrho, until the return to duty «? tho I'ay or in office, or in caseof a vacancy, the eletrbion and qualification of his sucoeccar, shallby such appointment be vested with all the powers and rights, and per-fom all the duties and receive the componcrtlon and perquisites belonging to said office during his incunbency.

Be it further enacted,That said Aldermen elect on the first Saturday succeeding their election, w as soon thereafter as possible, aneemble and organize in council, and cause to be filed their oaths of office,and adopt such ordinances from time to time as may be nececoary for their efficient orgmlzation and administration of tho affairs of the oltyi at their meeting the Mayor, by and with tlie advice and oonsent of the Aldermen, shall appoint such subordinate officers as said board nay deem necesnary for fhe public welfarej they shall have power and it shall be their duty to require and take such sufficient bond or bonds from all such officers,prescriblng by ordinance the penalties, forms, and with suoh conditions as they may see proper, to secure the faithful discharge of their respective duties; provided that the bonds
