Alley's new gasoline launch Orissa, was put into successful service between here and the shipping on last Friday. The Orissa has the capacity of transporting twenty-five passengers in addition to whatever freight she may carry. She is in command of Mr. N. W. Alley as captain and Mr. C. Olsen as motorman." DStar, Sept. 1,1899. • 1900 - On Friday last the body of Mr. Lemuel Meyers, the Mobile engineer, who was drowned a fortnight ago by falling overboard from the steamer Valeda, in West Pascagoula river, was recovered near the scene of the accident. The body was brought to Scranton on Mr. Norwood W. Alley's launch, engaged for that purpose. Mr. Charles Meyers, a brother of the unfortunate young man attended the burial, which took place in the Pascagoula cemetery, the same day. DStar, Mar. 19, 1900. ANDERSON, Capt. • 1) 1876 - The bran new tug Anna, which takes the place of the Duck, under command of Captain Anderson, made her first appearance in our waters last Saturday. She is 53 feet in length, 14 feet beam and 5 feet hold. She has entered the towing business in the river and has gone to work. The Duck has been dismantled and will be used as a wood boat. Gus Anderson telegraphed the Moss Point Lumber Co. of his safe arrival at Key West with the schooner J. W. Griffin, which he will have repaired there before sailing for this place. Ed Schwager, better known in the theatrical world as Ed and Jessie Foley, who have just arrived from New York, where they have just closed an engagement. Mr. Schwager, Mrs. Anderson's oldest brother who is referred to, is one of the finest performers and buck dancers of the day. J. • 1880 - "Capt. S. J. Armstrong has disposed of his tug-boat, the Knapp, to a gentleman in New Orleans. It is not the Captain's intention, however, to retire from the towing business.
