THE TWO REVI
The reviev of the (Louisiana) Legion, and the inauguration of the nev Brigadier on August 1853, suggest certain reminiscences and reflections vhich nay srrvlce somewhat to relieve the gloom and tediur. of these dreary times. (midst of a ye&low fever epidemic)
In his sneech on assuring his nev command, Gen. Palfrey stated that he had commenced his military career as a Corporal in the corps vhich has grown into the present Legion of Kev Orleans; no doutt the oldest organized brigade of uniform volunteers existing in the Vnited States.
Plauche 1 s Battalion
The General vas a Cornoral in the Louisiana Blues, under the command of Capt. T'aunsel White, our venera.£4friend of Deer Range.
The Blues comnosed one of the companies of Plauche's Battalion, the first corns of citizen soldiers organized in Louisiana for the defense of the city. '"xce'Dt the Blues, the Battalion vas composed almost entirely of Creoles.
^ach Co'-nany had its ovn uniform.
There vas a fine Brass Band attached to the Battalion, s prominent member of vhich vas that staunch veteran, Ar.thony Fernandez, Esq., r.ov a survivor, and, nerhaps, the only one.
It is an interesting fact that durinn the siege-of this city, the American earn vas constantly enlivened by martial strains, as veil s by musical divertirement?, vhilst in the British camp not -a musical note vas ever heard--and the brass instruments of their band vere left by thetr vhen their army retired.
_	--ever i.’as there a more ardent r.nd gallant set of young soldiers
^	v...-.n	tnose vnic’n composed Plauche,1^ Battalion.
