Built in 1847 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places it's the oldest hotel remaining on our coast; now houses the Gulf Coast Carnival Association and the Mardi Gras Museum. Biloxi school children participate in many special youth projects here. CREOLE COTTAGE, Lameuse Street. Built in the 19th century it was Biloxi's first Free Library and uses early Louisiana design. Houses exhibits of the Biloxi Art Association. CITY HALL, 140 Lameuse Street. Built in 1908 by the Federal Government as a Post Office, Federal Courthouse and Customs House. By the late 1950's the Federal Government outgrew this building, and the City traded property with the government to erect a new building. Damaged in 1985 by Hurricane Elena it was restored to its original condition. Most of the original woodwork was uncovered and restored. GEORGE E. OHR ARTS AND CULTURE CENTER 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 136 G E Ohr Street. This museum opened July 1, 1994 and quickly proved its cultural importance. It houses the Lila Wallace Gallery featuring local and regional exhibits, the Jambalaya Gallery shows works of local artists and the Pot Ohr- exhibits the largest collection of Ohr pottery. Don't miss a special art exhibit by local artists entitled "FLOWERS BY THE SEA" in honor of the 50th Anniversary Pilgrimage and a major photographic exhibit of the Coast at the Biloxi Library, located in the same Building. "THE OLD BRICK HOUSE" HOME OF THE BILOXI COUNCIL OF GARDEN CLUBS 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. JEAN BAPTISTE CARQUOTTE HOUSE 633 Bayview. Maps, brochures and refreshments. This National Register Building was built in 1722 of brick made on the premises, and is the oldest remaining building in Biloxi. It was owned by Biloxi's "first mayor" as a summer cottage, a later mayor was reported to have burned missing city documents in the fireplace. BEAUVOIR 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pilgrimage Chairman: Sue Barton The Beauvoir Belles and Beauvoir Singers grace this beautiful setting located on W. Beach Blvd. The 51 acre shrine, built cl852 was the last home of Jefferson Davis, the only President of the Confederacy. It houses a Confederate Museum, the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier and Davis family heirlooms. Beach Garden Society established an arboretum on the grounds. House tours limited to the first 100 guests per hour. A Confederate Infantry camp will be set up on the grounds, and YESTERYEAR DANCERS will perform. Refreshments served 3 - 5. TULLIS-TOLEDANO MANOR 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. East Beach Blvd. Built by Christoval and Matilda Toledano, cl856, the rich detail entry way and dormers enhance one of Biloxi's most striking early mansions. Purchased by the City from the Tullis family after Hurricane Camille, the house has been restored and furnished to the period. It operates with the Tullis Board as a historical attraction. The grounds contain legendary live oaks. Hostesses: Biloxi Garden Club. MARITIME AND SEAFOOD INDUSTRY MUSEUM 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Point Cadet. Built in 1934 as part of a U.S. Coast Guard station overlooking the Bay of Biloxi, it houses exhibits and artifacts which traces the 300 year history of Biloxi and offers educational programs, such as Sea-n-Sail Camp. It is the only maritime museum in the United States to operate two Coast Guard certified, indigenous historic vessels, the Biloxi Schooners. Special exhibits and demonstrations. THE FATHER RYAN HOUSE 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Bed and Breakfast, 1196 Beach Blvd. Built c 1841, this is a National Historic Landmark and one of the oldest remaining structures on our Coast. It was the home of Father Abram Joseph Ryan, Poet Laureate of the Confederacy. Each room and suite has its ov/n character, from the island charm of the beach houses to the stately elegance of the Father Ryan rooms, furnished with exquisitely handcrafted beds and furnishings dating to the early 1800's.
