The third oldest town in Mississippi, Port Gibson was the scene of a major Civil War battle in May, 1863. The town was said by General Grant to be “too beautiful to burn.”

An art show and book sale at the Irwin Russel Memorial are scheduled during Pilgrimage. Other interesting sites open free of charge are historic churches, Ruins of Windsor, Oakland Memorial Chapel at Alcorn State University and Grand Gulf State Military Park and Museum.
Tour Information
Eight homes will be open to the public for tour. Morning tours are
9	o’clock until noon and afternoon hours 1 until 5 o’clock on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday homes will be open from 1 until 6 o’clock. Prices are $10.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and children. Tickets may be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce, Highway 61 South.
