U. S. Highway No. 165
Entering the state from Arkansas several miles nort? of Bastrop near Jones, Morehouse parish, is U. S. High way No. 165. Bastrop is the site of two large pape mills and other industries, and is the gateway to Bayo Bartholomew, where there is good fishing. Continuin on 165, the tourist passes Sterlington on the Ouachit river, where a 124,000 horsepower gas-operated electri plant is located. The next town on this route is Monrot ?in the heart of the world?s largest gas field.?
Numerous carbon-black plants are located in th vicinity of Monroe, as well as other industries. Acros the river in West Monroe is a large paper mill and ba factory. Monroe is the home of the State Training Inst tute for boys, the Baptist orphanage, library, hospital: one of the best salt water swimming pools in the Unite States, and excellent golf links. There are splendid hot* and restaurant facilities in Monroe, and many beautifi homes.
