Cl) THE CITY-COUNTY MEMORUAL LIBRARY HAS DEVELOPED FROM A VERY SMALL YVPA BEGINNING IN T934 (200 BOOKS STACKED ON THE FLOOR OF A DONATED ROOM ABOVE THE HANCOCK BANK). THANKS TO THE EFFORTS OF A DEVOTED LIBRARIAN, MISS LOUISE CRAWFORD, HA RD-WORKING COMMFTTEES, AMD GENE ROWS DONATIONS FROM HUNDREDS OF CITIZENS, BAY ST, LOUIS NOV/ OWNS A WELL-EQUIPPED BUILDING FOR ITS LIBRARY AND MORE THAN T7,000 VOLUMES.
C2) LOCAL HOSPITAL - IN T927 A Cl RCLE OF KING’S DAUGHTERS * SONS WAS FORMED, WHICH A YEAR LATER STARTED AN EMERGENCY HOSPITAL IN THE UPPER STORY OF DR. D- H. WARD'S HOME. THE FI RSTPATI'ENT WAS AIM ITT ED ON JUNE 16, 1928. LATER A HOUSE WAS RENTED FOR THE HOSPITAL ON WAIN STREET, AND FINALLY A HOUSE ON CARROLL AVENUE WAS PURCHASED AND EQUIPPED. THE HO>SPITAL CONTINUED TO BE OPERATED AS A KING*S DAUGHTERS * SONS EMERGENCY HOSPITAL UNTIL IT CLOSED IN 1957. IN 1958 IT REOPENED AS THE HANCOCK COUNTY HOSPITAL.
C5) THE BAY ST. LOUIS LITTLE THEATER WAS ORGANIZED IN 1946 AND HELD ITS FIRST PLAYS IN THE BAY HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM. IN 1948 IT PURCHASED A LOT ON BOARIMAN AVENUE AND BOUGHT TWO WAR SURPLUS BUILDINGS WHICH IT JOINED IN A T-SHAPE AND PAINTED BARN RED. TODAY IT l!S A W B. L-EQUIPPED THEATER SEAT If NG 150 SPECTATORS AND HAS CONSISTENTLY PRESENTED WELL-KNOMJ BROADWAY SUCCESSES TO AUDIENCES FROM THE GULF COAST.
C4) THE BAY-WAVELAND YACHT CLUB WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1950 ON THE SITE
OF THE OLD OYSTER FACTORY ON NORTH BEACH. IT PROVIDES EXCELLENT
OPPORTUNITIES FOft SAILING, FISHING, AND SWIMMING AND IS THE SETTING
