GULF YACHTING ASSOCIATION
62nd OPENING REGATTA AND OPENING MEETING
MAY 1 -2, 1982
TO THE FLAG OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, MEMBERS, AND ALL SAILORS IN THE GYA -
GREETINGS from the Flag Officers, the Board of Governors, the Regatta Committee and the entire Membership of the Bay - Waveland Yacht Club.
Our club is proud to be a part of this 62nd Opening Regatta of the Gulf Yachting Association.
We have planned a great schedule for your enjoyment on both the sailing and social scenes. The competition for the Scheib, and Dane Trophies will be the best yet. The Beard and Capdevielle Trophies await the outstanding Junior Achievement group and top GYA competitors of last year’s sailing season.
The new Commodore of the GYA will be installed at the Annual Meeting to be held on May 1. We are particularly proud of this year’s Commodore-Elect, Harry Chapman - a mainstay of the BWYC — who follows in the footsteps of his father, Commodore Henry Chapman, who served as GYA Commodore in 1967.
Harry has served the sport of yacht racing in an exemplary manner for many years as a competitor, teacher and administrator on the national and local levels.
We extend our best wishes for a successful year to Commodore Chapman, Commodore Boyle, Commodore Ellis and the other Flag Officers and the Governors of the GYA. Our thanks to Commodore Roy Sellers, Jr. for a job well done.
We hope that your stay at the BWYC will be a pleasant-one.
“Good Sailing and Good Luck to all competitors.”
Edgar W. Santa Cruz, Jr. Commodore
