This tower was built in the winter of 194-2-43 by H. T. Carr, Sr.
With the approval of civil defense, this post was served by volunteer workers as an aircraft spotters station during World War II. Observers were trained under the supervision of the Third Fighter Command. Citations were received by observers for their valuable contribution to our country's war defenses.
The tower withstood the 1947 hurricane, after which temporary liv-
ing quarters were built around the base of the tower by Mr. Carr. This later became a workshop .
Hurricane 'Camille tried her fury on this structure in 1969, leaving only minor damages.
Osborn 5 still stands proudly.
