"Isaac Myers, 2nd and Elizabeth Myers". These were his parents and he was the only child in the household. He next shows up in the 1855 NY State Census as "Isaac Myres, age 23, and from Rensselaer Co., NY". He was the only person living with his parents, Isaac Myres and Elizabeth Myres. This 1855 census also says they all came to Stillwater "10 years ago", thus, they moved around 1845. In the 1865 State Census of Stillwater, we find "Isa or Ira? Myres, age 75(1790), Elizabeth Myres, age 73 (1793), house #225/242", with 11 other Myres in the house, including "Isac Myres", age 25 (born 1835), who was a "boatman" by trade - same age and occupation as our Isaac Myres! The names in the house are Thomas, 43; Gennett, 40; Lfiett, 20; Margaret, 17; Mary Ann, 12; Lavina, 8; James E., 5; Thomas, 2; and Matilda, 3/12. This family can not be found in the 1850, 1860, 1870, or 1880 censuses of New York. The head of the home and his wife were born in 17 90 and 17 93 in New York - the same years that our Isaac and Elizabeth Myres. Who they are, we are not sure, but they do raise some questions that we can not answer. In the 1870 census of Stillwater, we find our "Isaac Myers", age 34, was a "boatman" by trade (same as listed on his Civil War Records), born in NY, and he was living in the home of Isaac Travis and family with no apparent connection. Also, his parents show up in this census as, house #61/76 an "Isaac Myars, age 82 and Elizabeth, age 77". From all indications, we believe Isaac Myres, Jr. was an only child. Again in the 1875 NY State Census of Stillwater, house #118/140, we now find "Elizabeth Myres, age 80, widow, originally from Rensselaer County, NY." Also in the home is "Isaac Myres, age 40, single, her son, and was a hand in a saw mill". The 1880 Census of Stillwater shows "Isaac Myres, age 40", with his wife and three children as covered in Margaret Bridget McGrath's section. As stated there, Isaac married her on May 23, 1876. In the 1900 Census of Galway, Saratoga Co., "Isaac Myers, age 70, is living with his daughter, Alice, son-in-law, Edward (Warren) Seely"; and their family. In 1910, Isaac is still living with this family, "age 79, widower, and father-in-law to Warren E. Seeley". As discussed earlier, Isaac Myres died on February 8, 1924 in Binghamton, NY and is buried in the Floral Park Cemetery in Johnson City, Broome Co., NY. This is also what is found on his death certificate, but it did not name his parents. We do know the names of his parents for they were listed on Isaac Myres' Civil War Records in the City Clerk's Office in Stillwater, NY. The parents listed were "Isaac Myres and Elizabeth Mabb". Grandma Margaret Woodward told us her grandfather, Isaac Myres, was "half-Seneca Indian" and was proud of his heritage. If accurate, one of his parents would have been full Indian. The Myres side seems to be white, and that would leave Elizabeth Mabb as full Indian. Looking at every census, both always are identified as "white". Possibly Elizabeth Mabb was part Indian - half or even one-quarter. Another good possibility is that Isaac Jr. was half-Indian, but was adopted by Isaac and Elizabeth Myres, Sr. Please note that from all 16
