20 years the city of Shieldsboro changed its name to Bay St. Louis,
named after the body of water on which it was located.

During the gay nineties Bay St. Louis became ^uite
popular as a resort area, especially for New Orleans people. Many
citizens of today remauber the Sunday and Wednesday dollar-excursion
trains running from New Orleans to ^cean Springs filled to capacity
summertime
with happy crowds. One of the simple/pleasures was to meet the
excursion train and promenade with friends watching the vendors ssiiing
running up and down outside the train selling everything from fish
sandwiches to camellias through the windows. The first Bay St. Louis
opera house
yacht club was organized and a large tHaafcasae was built which brought musicals and lyceum programs to the town. A plan v/aS on foot for this operahouse to be used for try-outs by New Orleans theatrical troops when the building burned and the plan was never revived.
