President Declares Four Parishes Major Disaster Areas
By CLARENCE DOUCET Hurricane Camille’s death toll soared to 170 late Tuesday and Mississippi Gov. John Bell Williams said the total in his state may reach 500 to 1,000.

To the SI million for disaster relief the President made available Monday to Mississippi, he added another SI million for Louisiana’s four hurricane-battered parishes, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and (\Vashington, which he designated as major disaster reas.
Thus far, 162 deaths have been reported in the three coastal counties of Mississippi, and eight have been recorded in Plaquemines, where officials say at least 30 persons are still missing.
Discussing the death toll in Mississippi, Williams said:
“Because of the fact thati bodies are now being found! regularly, some people estimate j the death rate could go above!

Identification of 37 victims who perished in Hurricane Camille in Plaquemines Parish and on the Gulf Coast has been compiled by The Times-Picay-une. Identifications were furnished by Civil Defense officials in Gulfport, The Associated Press and the American Red Cross.
