13 years later, letter arrives
Snow? Rain? Heat? Gloom of night?
Whatever, something stayed the postal couriers from the swift completion of their appointed round to Allen Holder’s home in Long Beach.
Allen called up laughing. He had just received a yellowed and dirty letter from Gulf Guaranty Life Insurance Co. in Jackson. The postmark? Nov. 10, 1983. The postage — $.20.
The second postmark was from New Orleans and dated Oct. 16,1996.
Inside were some insurance forms and a questionnaire. Allen said it probably concerned a loan he had at the time. He ^doesn’t really remember.
* “It had to be in New Orleans the whole time,” Allen said. “This is hilarious.”
Well, not quite as hilarious as what Long Beach postal worker Pete McGoey wrote on the envelope before delivering it to Allen: “Sorry for the brief delay.”
