Cataloged materials available to researchers include books, manuscripts, paintings, prints, drawings, maps, photographs, and artifacts about the history and culture of New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Gulf South. While acquisitions by purchase have been temporarily discontinued, The Collection is pleased to report the following notable donations. Though only selected gifts are mentioned here, the importance of all gifts cannot be overstated. Vernacular photographs, those made by non-professional photographers, are valuable resources for documenting time and place. Traveler Edward Everett Carlton Gibbs compiled an album of 34 of his photographs taken along the banks of the Mississippi River beginning in 1902. After receiving the album from Elizabeth E.
