State organization benefits an>. numerous, but it is mainly for a voice in support of legislature beneficial to libraries that come before the State Legislature, to share ideas, swap talents and improve library education. Friends have no say in policies of a library, and cap not tell the Library how to run their programs. These are the duties of the Board of Trustees. The main purpose of the Friends is to aide the library in becoming a cultural center for the community and to communicate the needs and services of the library to the community and vice versa, and to help raise funds. The Friends meet 5 times a year in January, March, May, September and November, the first Wednesday of the month at 7*30 p.m. The year runs from January to December, and officers are elected annually at the January meeting, „ . Some of the tnings the Friends have done m the past are» 1. Organized and conducted a one to one summer reading tutoring program every year. 2. Conducted book sales. 3. Served refreshments at an art reception, kick off for Summer ‘Mississippi Reading Program, and for National Library Week. 4. Conducted a Name the Bookmobile Contest. 5. Supported the Sybil Husky Dance Performance. 6. Attended Regional workshops, 7. Sponsored a Hurricane preparedness program at the Library. Future plans for Fall include a Tennis Tournament, another book sale and an Apple Festival Week at the Library, The Friends are also purchasing new doors for the office doorway. Programs are always a part of the meetings and have included book reviews by lopal authors and a lecture on.the King Tut exhibit. Many interesting programs can be offered m the future, with sufficient support. Much can be done for the Library with the community's help. Please consider being a Friend to your Library. Dues are only #2.00 per year.
