THE Southern Gulf Coast Association was organized in the City of New Orieaus in T'til, the date being' April 28th. The latter is mentioned in the interest of pos-teritv. for there is no doubt but that the yachtsmen of fifty j years hence will point back to the day with pride somewhat akin to the way the members of the Southern Yacht Club feel when they think of the day that organization was formed half a hundred years ago and more. The Association is such a lustv body in its salad days , that it is pleasant to think about what a grand body it may become.and what an influence it is destined to wield in the decades to come. There is no reason why. from a •' purely local union of the six yacht clubs situated on this corner of the Gulf, it should ■ not expand and embrace all the yacht clubs from Galveston to the Southern most .tip of peninsular Florida The objects 01 the Association are of course to bring the ■ yachtsmen of the section more closely to-, gether, to devise uni-’ ,■* form rules and classes \ and to reap what other benefft there is in the old adage or "in unity thera^s strength.’’ Tlie Association was organized with ii v e clubs enrolled, viz:.The Bay-Waveland Y. C., the Pass Christian Y. JOHN J President. KENWBBTVjtfVc •••ty/s nr Biloxi Y. C.. the Mobile Y. C. and the Southern Yacht Club. A litMay later the Pascagoula Y.^C making six clubs on the roll was admitted .to membership,-for the first year. For tirn^ out-of-mind these clubs had-helped to foster the sport in the South, the" Mississippi Sound resort clubs each giving its own reg’atta during the summer at times best , suited only to itself. Now these regattas form part of the racing circuit of the Association and they follow each other in rotation from Saturday to Saturday during the months of July and August of cach year These dates being fixtures, the yachtsmen can make their plans months in advance., the round of the events
