_ln June, Bay St. Louis became ' Mississippi's newest entry in the Street program, which is 'designed to revitalize its historic : downtown area. While it is geared toward bringing in more tourists and visitors, the program is also expected, to strengthen the downtown district as the area's cultural center.
Bay St. Louis has Mississippi’s third largest multi-resource district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, over 700 buildings which reflect and preserve unique architectural styles. Today, they contain many antique stores, art galleries, specialty shops, gourmet restaurants and craft shops.
This year’s Studio Artists Tour in Bay St. Louis listed over 40 artists, while the local historical society has some 300 active members.

The third area is the Highway 90 district, with its shopping centers and commercial areas. This is a joint project with the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.
Behind these projects is a group of people with a great sense of community pride. Among them are volunteers who serve as hosts and hostesses at the local welcome center. Others serve as guides for tour buses and carry out such projects as the community-wide Christmas decorations.
Bay St. Louis is the home office of Coast Electric Power Association, which is providing power for progress in parts of Hancock, Harrison and Pearl River counties.
Hancock County is the home of diversified industries, with the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission assisting in growth and development activities. Industrial parks are located at Port Bienville and Stennis International Airport. The county is home of NASA’s Sterinis Space Center, where rocket engines are tested, and also the Nava! Oceanographic Center and the U.S. Army Ammunitions Plant.
