Hancock United Way exceeds 1988 goal

The Hancock County United Way exceeded it 1988 campaign?s goal by $6,351 in a report made Wednesday to officers and directors by Conrad Mauffray, executive director.
David Treutel Jr., campaign chairman, was elated over the exceeding of the goal of $70,000, which in itself is a 17 percent increase over the 1987 campaign of $65,000.
?The addition of new payroll deduction companies and
businesses, in addition to others which have been regular contributors over the years, has really helped in the 1988 campaign,? Chuck Benvenutti stated.
Treutel, who served as a cocampaign chairman in 1987, stated, ?The team concept of having a campaign chairman and several co-chairmen has really helped Hancock County?s United Way reach more contributors at a time when it is really needed.?
Among the latest industries to join the United Way payroll deduction participation were Hancock County?s officials, Bay Technical Associates, General Electric Plastics (Borg-Wamer) and Sunland Services, contractors to G.E. at Port Bienville.
Benvenutti added there is another Bay St. Louis industry conducting a campaign, which is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 31 as our campaign ends.
Mauffray said the $76,351 reached includes corporate
gifts, monies and pledges from individuals, businesses and industry. The figure also includes the Combined Agencies Campaign (CAC) of Stennis Space Center and Combined Federal Campaigns (CFC) covering the coastal government employees.
A large percentage of the $76,351 comes from payroll deductions.
Benvenutti said, ?With the large number of our residents employed outside of our county
in such places as the Greater New Orleans area, we are pleased there is an increasing number who designate Hancock County United Way as their payroll deduction recipient.?
Serving as campaign co-chairmen with Treutel were Jo Ann Lagasse, Sherrell Johnson, Pat Harvill, Lonnie Clayborn, Ken Walker, Randy Castello and Steve Planchard.
In 1988, the United Way funded 18 agencies with funds
raised during the 1987 campaign.
At a recent United Way meeting, Hancock County?s St. Vincent de Paul Society was added as a 19th agency for 1989. The funding for the new agency is to be used for medicine.
Treutel was elected at the board?s last meeting to serve as a director with the resignation of Rick Eagan, who resigned because of a job change.
