VII.	Noah Stanford - bom on September 30, 1812, according to the John
Stanford, Sr. Bible. He is listed in the 1850 Marion County census as being bom in Georgia. Through further research, we now know he was bom in Warren County, GA. Marion County Court House has him marrying Elizabeth Felder on June 22, 1837. Some descendants claim her middle name was “Lowe.” Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Washington Parish, LA, (see 1840 census) where their first three children were bom. One of his great-granddaughters, Mrs. Nancy Smith of Picayune, MS, said Noah died in Gainesville, Hancock County, MS, while living with his daughter, Nancy Stanford McGehee. Some internet researchers claim he died in 1867, but give no source. He was buried in the Gainesville Cemetery next to his daughter, Nancy, until the Stennis Space Center was built in the 1960s, and the government moved their remains to the Palestine Cemetery in Picayune, MS.
Mrs. Smith told us that Noah Stanford’s wife was from Chrystal Springs, MS, and she met a tragic end when she fell in a creek (probably Catahoula Creek) near her home and drowned. Based on the 1850 census, she was bom in 1815 and internet researchers claim she died in 1876, but give no sources. She was buried in a field next to their home, under a mulberry tree near Leetown, a settlement near Caesar, MS. She also said that Noah and his wife were charter members of the Caesar Baptist Church. The 1850 census of Marion County, list his children as: Mary age 12, bom in LA; Nancy age 11, bom in LA; Harriet age 9, bom in LA; Green age 7, bom in MS; Sarah age 5, bom in MS; and Franklin, age 2, bom in MS. The following is what information we have found on Noah and Elizabeth Stanford’s children:
A.	Mary Elizabeth Stanford — bom in Louisiana in 1838 according to the 1850 Marion County census. Her headstone in Pine Grove, St. Helena Parish,
LA, says she was bom on April 24, 1838, and died on July 6, 1899. Mrs. Smith said her name was Mary Elizabeth, and she married William Davis. Hancock County Court records have Mary E. Stanford marrying William Davis on April 6, 1865. William Davis was previously married to Julia Ann Lee on November 9, 1851, in Marion County. Julia had seven children by Davis and died. Mary E. and William Davis show up in the 1870 census of Gainesville, MS, with Julia’s seven children and four of their own.
Then, in the 1880 census of St. Helena Parish, LA, we fine William and Mary Davis with 10 children. The following names and dates were taken from “Davis Family History,” by Thomas David Davis, The Dixie Press, 1956. By Mary E. Stanford, William Davis had:
1.	Sarah Jane Davis - bom January 27, 1866, died May 9, 1932.
2.	John Franklin Davis - bom July 27, 1867, died February 7,	1941.
3.	Isaac Newton Davis - bom August 24, 1868, died January 13, 1936.
4.	Thomas Fletcher Davis - bom April 6, 1870, died March 3, 1952.
5.	Harriett Ann Davis - bom September 18,1871, died May 8, 1919.
6.	Martha L. Davis - born January 13, 1872, died October 28,	1927.
7.	Virginia Davis - bom June 6, 1873, died January 16, 1943.
