P. J. Benvenutti, mother of eight - one, a two year old who picked up trash on a harness and leash to keep him from straying the street; and Mrs. Paul Vegas, who spent the last five months of her fourth pregnancy on the litter detail.
That October was designated by the City of Bay Saint Louis and Hancock County as the first fall Clean-Up Month. All of the people caught the spirit and began to do their share in bringing the town back to livability. Since such a massive clean-up was needed, the emphasis was placed on removing litter and remaining hurricane debris, with the future hope of plantings and beautification. This initial effort was successful in more than visible results. It began a reawakening of the "Pride" so necessary in making a town aware of its appearance.
