LOUIS, MISS. 467-4274 Hancock County posesses great natural beauty from its Gulf-bordered shorelines to the rolling hills of its central and northern reaches. The City of Bay St. Louis has recently installed new water and sewer systems. Waveland has recently installed a new water system and a new sewer system is under way. A beautiful, wide, nine and one half mile sand beach lies along the warm, calm Gulf of Mexico, where swimrdbig, sun bathing and fishing are second to none. Interstate Highway 10 is under construction east-west across the center of the county. New residential and commercial contraction can be observed county wide. Wide sand beaches along with all water sports, hunting, riding stables, roller rink and motion picture theatre make for a variety of recreational activities. Other activities include the Garden Club, Art League, Little Theatre, Yacht Club, and the annual Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Port and Harbor Facilities consist of Access Channel, Industrial Channel 8,300 feet long, and 150 feet wide and 12 feet deep - turning basin 800 feet long, 400 feet wide and 1198 acres of beautiful industrial area ready for building. Hancock County Airport (John C. Stennis Field) consists of 4500 feet of lighted runway with 10,000 feet ultimate runway, only 2 miles from I-10. There are churches of all faiths throughout the county representing nearly all denominations. In Bay St. Louis there is one public school system with four attendance centers, three private schools and two parochial schools. Waveland has one public school, and one parochial school. County schools are located at Lakeshore, Pearlington and on Highway 603 north of Kiln. One parochial school is located at Kiln. St. Stanislaus school for boys in Bay St. Louis is often referred to as a way of life. In a world tense with uncertainty, and clouded with controversial issues, the “way of life” of St. Stanislaus remains as a solid foundation upon which to base education and character building. Here boys become men. Through instructions adapted to the capacity of their students in all branches of learning, the teachers, Brothers of the Sacred Heart, produce scholarly Christian gentlemen. A school truly dedicated to your boy’s future with understanding, guidance and challenge, since 1854. Civic groups play an important part in Hancock County: The Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Jaycees, Jaycettes, Masonic Order, Eastern Star, Knights of Columbus and Auxiliary, American Legion and Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Home Demonstration Club, Garden clubs, 4-H Club, FFA, Scouts and numerous other school and church youth organizations. Yields from Hancock County timber crop run into the millions each year with pulpwood, poles, pilings, and saw logs. Agriculture is becoming more diversified each day with the dairy farms, beef, cattle, swine and poultry farms. Almost all row crops are grown. NASA’s Mississippi Test Facility, for test firing spacecraft, located in west central Hancock County, covers mote than one third of the county and employs 2500personnelwith an annual payroll of more than twenty five million dollars.
