Summary There was general consensus amongst the round table participants about the main planning issues that need to be addressed with development of dockside gaming: - providing adequate parking and traffic flow - preservation of the existing community character - provision of adequate emergency services - minimizing environmental impacts - maintaining adequate public infrastructure Most of the groups agreed that there should be no more than three sites in the city limits, and that the sites should be scattered rather than concentrated in one area. There was also concensus that the vessels' gaming areas should be limited to adults, while family-oriented activities should be on other parts of the vessels or based on land. Restaurants, hotels, creational activities and shopping ranked highly among other facilities the groups thought should be provided at dockside gambling sites. The need for offsite parking shuttle service was stressed. Suggested additional controls to those existing through state law and gaming commission regulation included regulating size and design of boats; controlling operating hours and security and ensuring respect for existing zoning; and maintaining aesthetic standards. 8
