GARDEBLED DRUG STORE WAS THRIVING BUSINESS IN EARLY YEARS OF BAY ST. LOUIS
The E. C. Gardebled Drug Store established in Bay St. Louis in 1880, was located at the corner of Toulme and Main Streets.
This drug store had a very substantial trade, which was due to the large stock of drugs and druggist’s sundries, also the different kinds of toilet articles, and had the reputation of being the first drug firm in this section to handle the celebrated California perfumery; a complete line of stationery and post cards; also a very fine soda water business.
Mr. Gardebled took a great interest in the upbuilding of Bay St. Louis, he served two terms as a member of the Board of Supervisors of Hancock County and as a member of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Bay St. Louis for seven years.

Demoran's TV-Radio Business Expanding
.Demoran’s Television and appliance business represents the success story of a husband-wife combination whose joint efforts established one of the flourishing businesses of Bay St. Louis.
The venture began in 1944 With the opening of a small electrical repair shop and small appliance sales business, located on Railroad Avenue.
Long hours plus diligent application by Hazel and Emmett Dem-oran led to increased business and need of larger quarters. A second location adjacent to the first was secured, stock increased, and large major appliances carried. Six years after opening, business had so improved that the strategic “five corners” site at Union and Railroad was purchased by the couple.
The first launderette of Hancock County was estabiishea as an addition to the business, solving a problemi of family washing for summer visitors and also used extensively by residents of the community.
Furniture is a recent addition to the stock carried in this business house where customers may purchase radios, TV sets, major white appliances, house-wares, fine furniture, lamps and recording machines with the assurance of prompt and efficient service when need arises.
process industry The customers of this Monitor Panel Company are oil refineries, naval stores plants, pulp mills, insecticide and other chemical plants. It is easy to see that in this Coastal area, to which are converging more and more chemical process plants, that the Bay St. Louis location was intelligently chosen. H. A- Thompson, Jr., and Reede Horton, both chemical engineers registered in both Louisiana and Miss., are the partner-owners. Their employees are electricians and pipe fitters living in or near Bay St. Louis.
LATE JOSEPH V. BONTEMPS OPERATED POPULAR GROCERY SEVERAL DECADES AGO
The late J. V. Bontemps operated one of the most popular and well patronized groceries, carrying an extensive stock of fancy and staple groceries, crockery, and glass-ware, and made a specialty of Libby’s Canned Meats and Dunleith’s Creamery Butter. Mr. Bontemps devoted his entire attention to the Bay St. Louis trade,
NEW BAY ST. LOUIS INDUSTRY MAKING GREAT STRIDES
In a small thriving home factory they call LaRose Distributing Co., are created many of the complicated seashell ornaments sold by the Highway 90 souvenir shops and by amusement parks and carnivals all over the United States. The Oubres (owners) gather together the huge abalone shells from the Pacific, conchs from the Bahamas, coral from the South Seas, tiger cowries from the Philippines, sun and moon shells from Japan and myriads of small tropical seashells from all over the world. These they assemble artistically into intricately arranged religious and ornamental shell novelties, many with lights concealed to illuminate the variegated sea shell colors and shades put together with ceramic parts made in their own backyard kiln.
