ed a proposal to the operation of a ferry across the Bay at this point. The Board took the matter under consideration and appointed a committee to confer with Harrison County Supervisors.
"Captain Drackett was invited to come to Bay St. Louis in regards to this matter through the effort of Mayor R.W. Webb.
"Capt. Drackett asked the Board to meet him half way and offer to pay $300 per month for one year in the event he failed to make a reasonable profit. That he would build the landing wharf and operate a ferry costing $15,000, operated
by steam and able to carry 200 passengers and 12 automobiles per trip."
Echo files for the balance of February are not available for research. It is reasonable to believe that shortly after the early February 1920 meeting, the ferry service across the Bay was established.
In the October 20,1920 edition of The Echo, a page 1 story featured a visit by Harold R. Ayers, managing director of the Old Spanish Trail Highway Commission who toured Bay St. Louis and met with local highway leaders.
