Old documents would seem to indicate General Nixon to be a man of whom any one would be gladly identified. His final resting place is Pearlington. He died on the 19th day of August, 1824. The grave site is enclosed with a rather rustdd wrought iron fence, and beside him arc his wife and a daughter who was married to a man named Seal. High weeds make it difficult to read the markers.
General Nixon, a native of the state of Virginia came to Pearl River in 1809 — one of the first settlers. He founded Pearlington and held various high and important offices: Justice of the Peace, Postmaster, member of the legislature. Judge of the County Court, and Brigadier-General of the Militia during the War of 1812.
He lived on the Indian Frontier and was active in patriotic duties after the Massacre of Port Mims — heading a regiment of Alabama and Mississippi Militia, he succeeded in protecting the populace from the tomahawk of savages. Nixon had command of the seaboard when American forces were called upon to defend New Orleans.
In about 1820 he removed from Marion County, Mississippi to Pearlington (of which village he was founder.	^
