Page 12 We found our poor little cats and buried them. The goats survived on the roof of the bam, only later to be killed by a pack of dogs. There was no sound, no breeze, and no sign of life anywhere, just an eerie stillness. Sticky, stinking black mud covered everything. Two weeks later, as we searched for anything that remained of our home, a “Band of Angels” appeared, making their way over fallen trees, debris and smelly things. They smiled and said, “We’ve come to help”. What they have done to put together a home and our lives is nothing short of a Miracle! Samuel Johnson said, “A friend is the Masterpiece of Nature”. We have found so many friends, some as far away as Canada. Unselfish, wonderful, hard working friends. Another miracle is that they thank us, for our Spirit, our Grace under pressure, our Fortitude and our love of home. The great lesson here is..........treasure your loved ones, count your blessings, be grateful for a drink of water and pray for those in need. “I am old, I am bent, I am cheated of all that youth urged me to win, but count me not among the defeated, tomorrow again, I’ll begin.” PAT COLE WILSON P.O.
