Built in the very earliest years of the ninenteenth century, Natchez’s Windy Hill was a gracious structure with a windowed portico supported by four massive Tuscan columns. Aaron Burr retreated here while awaiting trial on treason charges in 1807. Woodville’s LaGrange was the family home of James A. Ventress, the guiding force behind the establishment of the University of Mississippi. 16A MARCH/APRIL 1993 Windy Hill Manor was dismantled in the 1960s.
