4A-THE SEA COAST ECHO-THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 1996 “CUEVAS’ QUOTES” By Ellis C. Cuevas The Hancock County Historical Society will sponsor Onward Oaks for viewing beginning Friday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a fund raising effort by the Historical Society, and they will be assisted by the Hancock County Retired Senior Volunteers and Altrusa members in showing Onward Oaks. Viewing will also be the same hours on Fri., Apr. 26., May 3 and 10; Sat., Apr. 20, 27 and May 4 and 11; and from noon to 3 p.m. on Sundays, Apr., 21,28, May 5 and 12. Furnishings compatible with the house are being provided by area antique dealers and will be available for purchase through the Historical Society. Onward Oaks is located at 972 South Beach, Bay St. Louis. A donation of $5 per visitor is requested. An original bed from the 19th century home, removed from the house many years ago, will be on display. Charles Gray, Historical Society president, said it is a full tester bed, about 12 feet tall and in itself is worth a visit. The bed will not be offered for sale. Mickey Burns, volunteer coordinator, reports hosts will have information on the furnishings of Onward Oaks (Camp Onward as it was known as when I was a youngster.) For further information, call 467-4090.
