Riehlmann, who has a headstone. The information about the place of burial was told by Frank Alphonse Riehlmann, son of Peter Riehlmann, grandson of George Riehlmann.
We interviewed him on April 7, 1973 in Harahan, LA. He was 80 years old and had a good memory. He will be referred to as "Frank A. Riehlmann" from here on.
Based on information in George's naturalization papers (he was naturalized in New Orleans, LA, on May 29, 1860), he came to New Orleans in 1853, was a native of “Bavaria,” was under the age of 18 at the time, and had lived there since his arrival.

The New Orleans City Directory shows no persons in New Orleans with a name anything like “Riehlmann" prior to 1853, but in 1853 there appears a“J.A. Riehman,” with a clothing store, at #26 Front St. and the same for the year 1855. In 1856 there appears “P. Rielman” living at St. Anthony; Wm. Riehlman, Union; A. Riehmann, 26 Front Levee; and B. Riehmann, 6 Front Levee. As time goes on other similar names appear such as: Daniel, G. & Leitz A., John, and a few others that are probably “Riehlmanns.” The first positive record in the directory of George Riehlmann appears in 1868 as “G. Riehlman, dry goods store operator, at 838 Magazine St.” He also shows up in the 1870 census as "George Riehlman” with the same store and address as before. The directory shows him in this same store and address through 1879, then he disappears until in 1890 when "George Riehlmann” is listed with a “Variety Store at 125 South Rampart.” In 1891 he is listed with a dry goods store at 111 South Rampart and residing at #87 South Basin. In 1892 he still has the same store, but his residence is now 287 Poydras.
In 1893 he has the dry goods store at 125 South Rampart, and this is also his residence.
In 1895 he now has his dry goods store and residence at 212 South Rampart. In 1897 he has a “Notions Store” at 2053 Poydras St. In 1898 it is called a “Hardware Store” and in
1899	it is called a “Crockery Shop” at the same address. In 1903 George has his store at 306 South Rampart and residence at 2053 Poydras. Through the years, the City Directory also shows George's sons, Andrew, Frank, Peter, etc. working and living with him or elsewhere in the city.
