Power Lineman Electrocuted by 4000-Volt Charge (Speclil to The Timea-Pieayun*) Biloxi, Miss., May 17?Guy A. Whitfield, 21-year-old Biloxi employe of Mississippi Power Company, was killed almost instantly at 3:15 p. m. Tuesday when he came in contact with a 4000-volt wire he was splicing. Whitfield, one of six members of a line crew doing routine maintenance work, was hit by the wire just above his rubber gloves. Other members of the crew said that a pair of connectors slipped out of Whitfield?s hand and hit him on the arm. I. W. Johnson, another power company employe, was on the opposite side of the pole, on the ?ame level as Whitfield, when the tragedy occurred. After the ' victim was struck by the wire, members of the crew immediately lowered him to the ground. Crew members said Whitfield apparently showed signs of life for about five minutes after the accident. Artificial respiration was applied by crew members for more than an hour and an oxygen tank was secured to aid in an attempt to revive the man. Whitfield resided with his bride of a little over a year, Mrs. Lynda Joyce Barett Whitfield, at 1076 Lameuse st. . A native of Bay St. Louis, Whitfield was a veteran of World War II. He came to Biloxi three months ago from Gulfport where he held a similar job with the power company. Whitfield is survived by his wife, two brothers, Horace, Gulfport, and Donald, Mobile, and a sister, Miss Una Whitfield, .Jackson,. ? MRS. LUCIE ELEANORE WHITPIELD? Funeral services for Mrs. Lucie Eleanore Whitfield, wife of Evan Whitfield, who died Monday, were held at Roche Funeral Home Tuesday morning at 8:30 o?clock, followed by Mass at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church at 9:00 o?clock. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Phillip Cullen conducted the services at the funeral home and the grave' and celebrated the Mass. The pallbearers were: Thomas IL. Trawick, O. A. Wilson, A. J. Rollings and E. C. Bynum. The body was sent ! Tuesday afternoon to New Orleans, La., i where interment will be made. Funeral arrangements by Roche Mortuary. MRS. WHITFIELD DIES IN MOBILE Mrs. Lucie Elenora Blanchard Whitfield, former Bay St. Louis resident, died at her home in Mo-iile, Alabama, Monday, November 19, at 4:00 p.m. following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Whitfield, the wife of E. Van Whitfield, former Hancock County Sheriff, was the daughter of the late Captain Onizephore Blanchard and Lucie Ann Seuze-neau. Mrs. Whitfield, who moved to Bay St. Louis in 1909, resided here until 1935 at which time she and Mr. Whitfield moved to Mobile to make their home. Funeral services were held from the funeral home of Pat J. Mc-Mahon-Coburn Company at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21. Interment was in St. Louis?s No. 3 cemetery. Survivors include her husband; a stepson, Rufus Whitfield of Pascagoula, Mississippi; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Luva Dodd of Jackson; five brothers, Joseph S. Blanchard of Bay St. Louis; A. M. and M. O. Blanchard of Mobile; Jefferson Sr. and Onizephore Blanchard of New Orleans; three sisters, Mrs. Edna McCleod, Mobile; Mrs. Armantine Trawick and Mrs. Elvie Pence of New Orleans; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
