"There is a season for that, too", smiled Mrs. Cowand who added: "Although I have lost completely the sight in one eye, an operation last year left me with enough sight in the other to distinguish objects. Although I can no longer appreciate the colors of the flowers I still love their fragrance. From memory I can crochet and my daughter, Helene, helps me with the yarn colors". For a time a home on Julia Street (named for Julia Cowand) was home to Mrs. Cowand and it was conveniently near the Cowand private cemetery located on Leopold. Hurricane Camille destroyed much of the Julia Street property and now the Cowand tract which ran all the way from the Beach Front to the Jourdan River has been divided up with a part of it being developed by the famed Pete Fountain. A son, Malcolm Cowand, still lives on some of the Julia Street property.KKXX&Xa daughter, Ruby Cowand makes her home in Gulfport.
