Well, Selitta, grandma's teen-age sister, was spotted at a dance one night (I wonder who spotted her?) and after that it was determined that Aunt Martha would not be a proper guardian for her younger sisters. At that time grandma Cuevas went to live with Uncle Will and Aunt Liz Marson. Aunt Liz being Louisa (Smith) Marson, sister to grandma's mother Eran. Aunt Bernise said they treated grandma like she was their own child. Grandma was not totally separated from her family. She visited her sisters on a regular basis. Growing up in the northwoods of Hancock County myself, and being raised in a strict Baptist family, I can understand the situation at that time. In 1963 I married Karleen, baby daughter of Jessie W. Cuevas who is grandma's oldest Son. In the years we dated and after we married, with her blessing, Grandma Cuevas showed us an unselfish love that I have rarely seen in another person. I thank God for grandma Cuevas and for being a small part of her life. It's to her that I give most of the credit for the success Karleen and I have had in our marriage and our lives.
