which is very near his father's claim, as well as, some of his brothers. It states he first settled this land in 1812 and was still there in 1820 when a survey of owners was done.
In a report dated November 30, 1836 by the U.S. Land Office, Augusta, MS, Elisha Lott is shown to still be the owner of this land which was “claim #55”.
Elisha next shows up in the 1820 Hancock Co. census where he and a female (wife) appear with one son that was born between 1810-1820. Then in the 1830 census of Copiah Co., MS, he is listed with a female and three males - two born between 1820 -1830, and one bom between 1790 - 1810. Also in Copiah Co. that year are brothers John, Arthur, and Amos Lott, while brothers Ezekiel and Jacob Lott are living nearby in Hinds Co.
We also see Elisha paying taxes in Copiah Co. for years 1825 - 1833. Copiah Co. was carved out of Hinds Co. in 1823. Also paying taxes during that period were several of his brothers. It appears that he was residing in Copiah Co. while still retaining his original claim in Hancock Co. Elisha also shows up in the 1850 census of Madison Co., MS as bom in NC in 1784.
Elisha died on September 17, 1860 in Madison Co. as recorded in his family Bible. He completed his Will on July 7, 1860 which was filed in Madison Co. when his probate began. This Will clearly shows that Elijah was a wealthy man, owned a plantation, and land in several counties. He leaves property, cash, and other items to various members of his family, as well as, to several close friends and his church. Based on his Bible and his Will, the following is some information on his family. Elisha Lott was first married to Sarah “Sallie” Bodie Whitehead and had:
A.	William Baldwin Lott - bom October 27, 1819 and died on July 16,1873. He married Elizabeth Gray Hill on September 11,1843 and had: Sarah Rebecca, Ann Eliza, Elizabeth Jane, Mary Whitehead, and E. J. (daughter) Lott.
B.	Elisha Willis Lott - bom 1824 as listed in the 1850 Madison Co. census, p. 139, and died November 7, 1856. He married Elizabeth V. (maiden name unknown) and had: Sarah J. “Sallie”, Elizabeth, Elisha W. Jr., John B. Lott, and W.B. Lott.
Elisha Lott's first wife, Sarah, apparently died, then he married Elizabeth Jane (maiden name unknown) and had no children by her. She is listed in Elisha's Will.
V.	Robert Lott - bom before 1787 as will be discussed shortly. We find him traveling on a “Georgia Passport” on January 9, 1809 traveling south with his brothers, Amos and Stephen Lott. As with Amos and Stephen, we feel sure he was one of the older children because he was traveling ahead of his father, Solomon Lott, who was on a “passport” through Georgia on February 10, 1810 and traveling with his five children.
Robert Lott is found settling land east of the Pearl River in “February 1811” in Louisiana (before Mississippi was formed) in what was later Hancock Co., MS. The record shows this land, now in possession of Henry Jarrel, who was now living on the Pearl River near the lands of Solomon, John, and Jacob Lott (American State Papers,
Vol. 3, p. 3 6). The 1820 census does not show Robert Lott, but Henry Jarrel now living
