THE BRIGHTEST STAR A Christmas Sonnet The brightest star swings gently in the sky, Shedding its brilliance on a sleeping world. A child is born, a saver of men, a truth unfurled, A Saviour! Agape! For you to be saved, and I! As 'twas with our Saviour we were born to die. From the moment in our mother?s womb we curled, We die, to be born again, ?tis pearled. To live as our Christ; aye and lullabye. Yes, the brightest star will ever shine For a Christ-child born in a lowly birth And, in humility, rose to lasting greatness. He died on a cross, and returned to life divine, Bringing us joy and grace and peace on the earth. Leaving brightness and light, removing forever, the darkness.
