January 20, 1918. This is the first letter we have since August 12, 1917, though it mentions that he has written several letters in November and December. In the meantime there has been lots of snow and implied action. ?Still in the ring? sounds like soldier slang for survival.
Received a letter from Mother just after Xmas and answered it the same day. How pleased he was to receive some presents from home. ?I cannot thank you enough.?
A letter from Hazel Me Neely addresses him as ?Buzzy? and he gets a good ribbing from his fellow soldiers, whose name for him is ?Preacher.? This says a lot about how he is regarded in his company.
