Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col Randolph C. Bourgeois
A veteran of World War II, the	Korean	and
Vietnam	wars,	Col.
Bourgeois is the recipient of many military awards and citations, including the Legion of Merit, and the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism.
After 30 years of military service, he returned to Bay St. Louis in 1975, and became active in community and civic affairs.
He began work as the Hancock County Youth Court Administrator. He also served on the Governor?s Economic Development Committee for Hancock County. As the Senior Vice-Commander and former Commander of the VFW Post 3253, he is responsible for all Post Community Services and Activities.
This involves action in more than 30 programs, with focus on safety and educational development of children and young teens.
He is also active with the American Legion Post 139, and serves as a member of the Executive Committee. This year, he served as the Post?s King of Carnival.
He is actively involved as a volunteer with the Hancock Medical Center, contributing more than 7,500 hours of time over the years.
For the past seven years, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Hancock County Human Resources Agency. And, for the past three years, as Board Chairman.
The agency is responsible for operating the Little Acorn Child Development and Senior Citizens
Randolph Bourgeois
Centers in Bay St. Louis.
Under his leadership, the agency was a coleader with the Bay-Waveland School District to establish the Boys and Girls Club this year. Recently, he was recognized by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Hancock County for volunteer service to the community.
A member of the Kiwanis Club, he serves on the Board for Hancock / West Harrison Counties. Each year, he serves as Easter Bunny and Santa Claus for community activities with children, hospital patients and the elderly. His experience in working with and training young people in the military has taken him to the classroom as a part-time teacher. He is responsible for the VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship program, working with eligible students for the past six years.
He and his wife Theresa, soon to be wed 58 years, have three children and six grandchildren. His efforts are selfless and tireless, and for these reasons we call Randolph Bourgeois one of Hancock County?s Outstanding Citizens.
