U.S.A.T. CAPE COD - The Cape Cod's first voyage, after being converted from a CIA type freighter to a troopship, was with troops of the 155th Infantry Regiment of the 31st Infantry "Dixie" Division from Norfolk, Virginia, through the Panama Canal, to Milne Bay, New Guinea. After many subsequent voyages, the Cape Cod was released from further service in January 1946.
